Scrubbing and Cleaning

If you’ve visited this site in the past day or two, you might have noticed some occasional broken functionality and/or weird behavior.

You weren’t imagining things! I’ve spent most of this past weekend heavily redoing the site’s back-end architecture so that it would function better, and that meant I occasionally “broke” the site pretty badly. At one point, in fact, I ended up taking the front end completely down for a while.

The good news is that the front end is back up (and should be staying that way). The new back-end architecture means it’s also going to be leaps and bounds easier for me to keep things maintained and updated going forward.

The bad news is that the cleanup isn’t done.

For the sake of those who visit, this weekend I concentrated on cleaning up the story pages first, and as of this writing they are, in fact, cleaned up — or, at least, I hope. So are the site’s top menu and the blog. If you find something not working on any of those, please let me know and I’ll add it to the list.

However…

I have not yet had a chance to clean up the Reference Guide. That’s going to have to be a project for another weekend, as is a guide to all the parts of the redesigned site.

As far as I’m aware, things are technically working, meaning there shouldn’t be any errors if you click on something. But they also don’t yet look, feel, or completely behave the way I want them to; and a few items are still hidden because I haven’t yet had a chance to move them to their new locations.

So, at least for right now, I’ll need to ask for some additional patience. But please don’t give up! As you can see from the dates in the right-hand column, this is definitely an actively maintained web site. So even though I can’t give exact time frames, know that I don’t intend to let fixes languish.

In case you’re wondering, yes, I also plan to get some writing done as well as posting a few more of the rescued fan fiction stories. I’m going to be busy! But I think all this work is going to be worth it in the end. And I hope you’ll think so, too.
